Samsung’s Mondi-WiMAX Phone

2 April 2009 No Comment

The Samsung Mondi is a MID (mobile internet device) that runs Windows Mobile 6.1 and includes both WiMAX and WiFi networking. Nokia has already pulled its own WiMAX equipped N810 from market which was announced last year.

Mondi runs Windows Mobile 6.1, and it has a 4.3-inch touch screen display, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, GPS, three megapixel camera, an HDMI port, and 4GB of storage. Mondi’s mike is on the bottom of the device, so it will presumably capture background noise unless the user hold the gadget sideways, or uses a headset.

The Samsung Mondi will try its luck in the US WiMAX market through Clearwire’s Clear WiMAX service. Clearwire provides mobile WiMAX service in Portland, Ore., and Baltimore but expects to bring the service to more than 80 markets by 2010.

The Mondi will appear during the second quarter and go on sale at Best Buy.
