Plastic Logic And AT&T Will Ensure Ebooks At All Times

The Plastic Logic eBook Reader coming in 2010 will use AT&T 3G network allowing readers to get new ebooks anywhere anytime. While the Plastic Logic has not revealed exact details pertaining to its deal with AT&T.
Plastic Logic Reader is a mobile e-book reader that uses E Ink technology to display novels, newspapers, periodicals, and documents. While the company said it is primarily aiming the device at mobile professionals who need to read PDF, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel documents. Sporting portable-friendly dimensions of 8.5 inches by 11 inches and a ‘thickness’ of less than an inch, the Reader will also have an easy-on-the-eyes E Ink display screen.
Plastic Logic are teaming up with Barnes & Noble to provide a bookstore of more than 700,000 e-book titles, that’s technically more than Amazon’s 300,000 titles for the Kindle.
The new device will be aimed at an entirely different audience, said Daren Benzi, vice president of business development at Plastic Logic, in an interview with Fox Business News.
“We’re actually targeting a different type of customer, the business professional, while Amazon has been targeting the leisure book reading customers,” Benzi said.
Features: The Plastic Logic Reader will use Plastic Logic’s flexible screen technology, will feature an intuitive user interface instead of buttons, and will weigh in at just 13 ounces. The Plastic Logic reader will connect to the AT&T 3G mobile network to allow downloading of books. The device will also be Wi-Fi enabled.
For AT&T, the device represents a new way to use its data networks to generate revenues as traditional voice revenues decline. Sprint Nextel already provides the Kindle’s connectivity though a service that’s branded Whispernet.
