The Sony Ercsson CyberShot C905a is an American version of the phone CyberShot C905 announced last year. AT&T will launch this 8.1 megapixel phone in the U.S on July 19 giving Sony Ericsson a boost in the U.S market.
I am sure bloggers right now are busy trying to compare this CyberShot C905a with iPhone 3GS as this has now become a custom to compare every new smartphone with iphone. The 8.1 megapixel camera of CyberShot C905a is sure much more than 3 megapixel of iPhone and this camera has enough features to make Sony Ericsson proud.

Design:
As the name implies CyberShot C905a has all the features of Cyber Shot point and shoot camera. Measuring only 4.1 inches by 1.9 inches by 0.7 inch if looked from the backside this phone looks just a camera with sliding lens cover and a Xenon Flash.
The 2.4 inch scratch resistant screen supports 16.7 million colors which is helpful as a viewfinder but the text and graphic is not up to the expectations. The menu is in a 4 by 3 grid which can be organized in single or rotating view.
The CyberShot C905a handset is full of shortcut buttons to access the camera features of the phone like directly above the display are two keys one on the left corresponds to the last picture or video in the album, while the right key will take you to the camera album itself. The left key while in camera mode act as shortcut to shoot mode settings and the right key enable user to change the scene mode settings.

Camera:
CyberShot C905a when compared to other camera phones offered by AT&T is much better and clearly no other phone can even come close to its features. The camera also has a ton of settings like panorama stitching, several scene modes, macro focus, red-eye reduction, face detection, and even GPS geolocation tagging.
The C905 does a great job in broad daylight, with crystal clear images that show great color and depth of field. Indoors the CyberShot C905a flash works great and the Xenon flash is indeed much better than LED flash available with other camera phones.
CyberShot C905a offers different shooting modes like a macro mode for close-ups, a panorama mode to stitch together 3 frames into one long image, and scene modes for sports or for photographing text on a document. For shooting, the camera has a “Smart Contrast” mode that brightens up underexposed areas, especially in shots with a dominating backlight. The feature called BestPic takes seven photos in succession to let you pick the best ones to keep.
The different scene modes are also helpful in taking photos in specific situations like twilight, landscape, portrait, beach/snow, sports, and even a mode specially for taking macro shots of documents.
    Camera Features:

  • Five color effects
  • Five white balance choices
  • Supports shooting pictures in four different resolutions
  • Self Timer
  • Sport metering
  • Red Eye reduction
  • 16X zoom
  • Image Stablizer
  • Autorotate
  • Auto Focus
  • GPS geotagging
  • Face detection
  • BestPic
  • Xenon Flash

The built in camcorder can record videos which can record in either burst mode which records a 20 sec video for MMS or a normal mode with longer clip.

Connectivity:
CyberShot C905a comes with 3G/HSDPA, which gives it access to AT&T broadband services like video streaming from HBO and CNN. The turn by navigation feature can by accessed by AT&T Navigator, a TeleNav app.
The browser on this phone can load sites but images appears little jagged and blocky also most sites recognize it as phone browser and thus reducing the quality of images.

Multimedia:
The music player is clean and easy to use with interface that provides separate category for audiobooks and podcasts. The music player has an equalizer with custom settings available. CyberShot C905a can handle video files as well with QVGA resolution.
The FM radio wont work without the headphones which comes with the handset and also the absence of 3.5mm jack is a big disappointment to music fans.

Price:
CyberShot C905a would go on sale in JUly 19 for $179.99 after a rebate to customers who sign a two year service agreement with AT&T.
