Nokia Confirmed the Phasing out of N-Gage Platform in 2010, introduced in 2003 as a game-focused mobile phone hardware platform with games published on MMC cartridges.

Nokia is concentrating on its Ovi store, which also houses games like The Sims 3 and other popular versions. The Ovi Store is now supported by 100 Nokia handheld devices and is planned to provide services to a broad segment of users and will include gamers also.

Widely criticized early on for its form factor and limited game library, the N-Gage was largely unable to shed its negative gamer reputation even as those concerns were somewhat addressed.

The move was inevitable, especially as Apple has turned the iPhone into a gaming powerhouse, now the world’s largest mobile phone company will try and shift its customers to its Ovi Store.
