Download free Android app Ringdroid for your Droid device that can create ringtones from the mp3, wav and ARM files stored on your handset.

Ringdroid’s easy to understand interface enables users to set the start and ending notes of their ringtone by sliding arrows along the onscreen timeline, and editing the ringtones.

To create ringtones on your Droid:

  • Open any audio file on your Droid
  • The scrollable waveform representation of the audio file at 5 zoom levels will be visible
  • Set starting and ending points for a clip within the audio file, using an optional touch interface
  • Play the selected portion of the audio, including an indicator cursor and autoscrolling of the waveform
  • Play anywhere else by tapping the screen
  • Save the clipped audio as a new audio file and mark it as Music, Ringtone, Alarm, or Notification.

To download:
From your Droid handset, just click on “Market” and search for “Ringdroid” to install it.

This feels just like Cooledit, but I have never had the need to edit tunes on the go. Usually I will make about 5 at once and those will last me a month or two.

Very interesting information! It was of great use to me. I found RingtoneSmash has a great review of Cellware ringtones.

I have found it does not work very well – it does not accurately save the new beginning and end points you set, but often chops off the beginning and ending and totally ruins the effect of your new ringtone.
