HTC Eris And Motorola Droid Video Streaming: Now Watch Vimeo Staff Picks And HD Video Showcase

Vimeo the web video sharing site is now offering support for the Android handsets, with dedicated apps on the way. The video sharing site is working on H.264 encoding its content for Android and iPhone mobile viewers. Until now, watching Vimeo content required a web browser with Flash.
In the first stage, Vimeo has re-encoded some of its staff picks, part of its HD video showcase, and a few of the most popular videos on the site. Vimeo’s mobile home page offers a sampling of these in a long list, but no easy way to navigate or search for others.
“We’ve been working on it for the last few weeks,” Blake Whitman, Vimeo’s director of community said. “This is sort of the prelude of offering Plus members iPhone support; and in the future, an app,” he said.
Vimeo says that in a few weeks they will set things up so that Plus members can have the option to transcode their videos to iPhone and Android compatible format.
Vimeo’s rival YouTube has already converted almost all of its video catalog to the mobile-compatible format. New videos that are uploaded in other formats are automatically converted so they are immediately viewable on iPhones.
