Motorola Droid with all the “Droid Does” hype has not been able to retain its position as iPhone killer but Droid is still considered as serious challenge to BlackBerry.

To make things easy for buyers who are finding it difficult to choose between the Droid and BlackBerry the following comparison will help:

1) User Interface: The Motorola Droid’s use of Android raw UI is much better than BlackBerry’s vintage UI with Very reminiscent of Windows 3.0, the clunky menus, keyboard shortcuts, and primitive imagery.

2) Application support: The Google Android Market is looking good in its early days, with several high-quality programs available that match the better iPhone apps’ quality, but the BlackBerry has the weakest selection of apps, many of which are ungainly and hard to use, reflecting the platform’s lack of respect for usability. Droid has fully audible real-time turn-by-turn navigation absolutly free from Google and this single feature’s impact on the smartphone market is undeniable.

3) Security and management: No other mobile device can trump enterprise security of BlackBerry. Motorola or HTC Droid are no where near the features which BlackBerry offers to its enterprise customers. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) can track and enforce security policies, such as requiring that data stored on the device be encrypted, and it can initiate a remote wipe of a device after a specified number of failed password attempts, for example. Plus, BES can push security, policy, and app updates, as well as monitor device usage.

4) Keyboard: Many people hate touch keyboards and BlackBerry Bold’s QWERTY keyboard is much easier to use than Motorola’s Droid which is poorly designed. But the Storm 2’s traditional multiple-characters-per-key BlackBerry keyboard is difficult to work with, as the device has to predict which letter you want on each key.

5) Camera: The Motorola Droid boasts a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, giving it the most capable built-in camera based on the specs. The BlackBerry Storm 2 has midquality 3-megapixel cameras, while the BlackBerry Bold has a low-quality 2-megapixel camera.

I got the Blackberry Storm 2 last month and am utilizing the return in 30 days option and getting the Droid. The Storm 2 is a nice unit but I just do not like the keyboard. You MUST push the keys with your fingers and cannot use your fingernails to choose the keys and this makes it very difficult to type. The Storm2 also chooses your words as you type and sometimes it chooses the wrong words, which makes it a big pain to go back and retype the word; I would have to type the word incorrectly and then go back and retype the word.
The Storm also takes really bad pictures, while I don’t expect my cell phone to take the place of my camera I do think the pictures should be clear. There is really no way to make any adjustments and so far any pictures taken indoors are very poor quality.
