Black Swan Edition: Google Voice Returns To The iPhone

27 December 2009 One Comment

Riverturn, the company behind VoiceCentral is bringing back their Google Voice apps to the iPhone via the Safari. Apple pulled all Google Voice related apps from the App Store back in July, which led to an FCC inquiry. The new app is known as the Black Swan edition.

The Black Swan edition is entirely web-based and appears to eliminate the roadblock posed by Apple’s review team.

According to Riverturn, the new in-browser version of VoiceCentral will come with features:

  • Native iPhone look and feel.
  • Sync your Google Voice data.
  • Automatic and immediate updates.
  • Offline access to Google Voice data.
  • Listen to Google Voice messages and read transcriptions.
  • Swipe to delete calls, voicemails, or SMS conversations.
  • Google Contacts import.
  • Call using Google Voice or iPhone.
  • Uses Mobile Safari HTML5 capabilities.

The Black Swan beta currently lacks several basic features found in native apps. Users will have to manually import contacts, as the web app cannot directly access the iPhone’s contact list. Audio is also limited to the integrated speaker instead of the earpiece, although users can still use a headset.
