Microsoft has finally launched their innate Twitter application for the Zune HD personal media player. It can be downloaded via the Zune software on a PC or over a wireless connection absolutely free of cost.

At present, Zune HD users are able to use the device’s integrated web browser to access and update Twitter but have no way to cache the communications offline.
The app includes most of the service’s core features like normal buttons for Tweets, @ mentions, Favorties and Direct Messages,

The Zune Twitter app also updates currently playing track information with tap of single button. But the Twitter app 1.0 is still very beta by nature as it will lack GPS geo-location as well as a native photo viewer and other more advanced features found in apps such as Tweetie on the iPhone.

So now the Zune has a long way to go before it reaches the 100,000+ apps of its competitors, but this is a good start.
