Android Apps Can Make You Bankrupt: Download Banking Apps With Caution

13 January 2010 One Comment

Google’s Android Market relies on customers to report fraudulent apps, allowing criminals to target businesses and their customers’ smartphones until Google acts on the reported apps.

It’s important to check the developer when downloading apps to your android based phone. Recently, a warning was issued by First Tech Credit Union about the Droid09 app in the Android Market which proved that unlike Apple App Store Android Market is not safe.

Google spokesperson told one news site “The Android Market Content Policy clearly states that we don’t allow applications on Android Market to identify themselves with third-party marks without permission. If an application violates the content policy, we will remove it from Android Market, and developer accounts will be terminated for repeated violations.”

The phishing app is removed from Android Market place and the developers has been banned but the users who downloaded the app are still in danger if the app has not been removed from their phone.

TechCrunch points out that Apple is ahead not just in quantity but quality as Google is busy making Android Market compete with Apple’s App store in numbers and hence losing quality.

Google’s culture of “openness” is causing problems for its customers as the bad guys are always ready to take any advantage.
