iPhone 4G News: A4 Processor Included For Next Generation Apps And Games

30 January 2010 One Comment

Apple iTunes store will now host more powerful apps that will need more processing power thanks to iPad’s A4 CPU, which boasts 1GHz of processing speed. Apple next most anticipated device iPhone 4G will also need the power of the A4 chip as the next generation of iPhone apps and games will demand more processing power.

Currently, iPhone is running on a 600 MHz Samsung processor which is underclocked by Apple from its original speed of 833 MHz to improve the battery life.

The A4 processor developed by Apple through its newly acquired chip making company PA Semi will provide the required speed for the next generation of apps and games. The speed of the latest Apple iPad which incorporates A4 shows that it is faster than iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch released so far.

TUAW speculates that iPhone 4G will come with an A4 variant which will be underclocked to about 850 MHz to improve iPhone battery life. If the speculation proves correct then the speed of iPhone 4G will be three times the speed of current iPhone 3GS.
