Slacker Radio has unveiled its latest Android radio app that enables its users to cache their favorite radio station for listening when there is a weak or no connection.

The updated Slacker Radio app with caching feature has given it an edge over other streaming app available for Android based phones. The Slacker Radio 2.0 for Android now features cached stations, which will include a locally saved playlist of songs available if the connection to Slacker’s streaming service fails.

To enable caching user is required to have a Radio Plus account, which will add features like unlimited skips and removing advertisements. Slacker Basic accounts allow caching stations for up to 14 days.

The Slacker Radio 2.0 include features like:

  • The Slacker app can be set for manual or automatic station refreshes
  • Cached stations are stored directly on Android smartphones or on a memory card in Blackberry devices
  • The caching feature requires a Radio Plus subscription ($4.99/mo or $47.88/yr)
  • Users without Radio Plus can access a free 14-day trial of the caching function
