The Motorola Backflip is the first android based phone on the AT&T’s network, and with a unique design is sure to confuse costumers who are eyeing Motorola Droid as their new phone.

Here is the comparison between Motorola Droid and Backflip:

1. 3G Network: According to AT&T Motorola Bacflip brings together the best of social networking with the nation’s fastest 3G network. The AT&T network promises 22000 Wifi hotspots to make your Motorola Backflip connected to internet most of the time. The Motorola Droid on Verizon network has access to a network that is according to wired.com is the fastest in United States. Unlike Motorola Backflip the Motorola Droid will not share the network with data hungry iPhones, which are blamed for most of the speed problem by AT&T customers.

2. Design: The Motorola Backflip design with its unique backflip is the most important feature that can alter your decision if you are out buying a Droid. The Backflip features a “flip-out” QWERTY keyboard that is designed to be opened more like a book than like a traditional slide-out keyboard. The Droid features a slide-out QWERTY keyboard which you may have seen in phones like HTC G1.

3. Speed/Gaming: Motorola Droid costs more than Backlip as the Droid features a 600mhz ARM A8 Cortex processor along with 256Mb of RAM. The Motorola Droid also boasts PowerVR graphics from Imagination Technologies giving a better gaming experience to its users. The processor on the Backflip is not as fast as Droid but you will hardly notice any difference since Motorola has underclocked processor on Droid to 500Mhz for better battery life. When considering a gaming phone then Motorola is definitely a winner.

4. User Interface:
The Motorola  Backflip features Motorola’s Motoblur, which is essentially a social networking interface that lets users integrate friends’ status updates and uploaded pictures from Twitter, Facebook and MySpace onto their home screens. The Droid users can download many widgets that can achieve the functionality of the missing social networking aggregator.

5. Price: The Motorola Backflip will cost you $99.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate, whereas the Motorola Droid costs $199.99 when bought from Verizon for two year contract.

The Motorola Backflip is a mid-range phone with specs that is similar to the Motorola Cliq but the Droid is high-end smartphone which competes with the Apple iPhone.

it doesn’t sound like a bad phone but price wise I just bought my droid @ best buy all said and done with a bestbuy warranty (which covers ‘accidental damage’) I paid $118, with the a relatively level price depending on where u go the droid is imo the way to go (afterall that was I’m using to post this)

I am the dumbest person. The back flip is much better than the droid. They use the same software, and the back flip has been awarded a better keyboard, with better camera – allowing you to take self portraits, and much more. Do your research. Its more superior. The droid is a good phone, and the iphone is played out. The droid may be faster, but don’t be mistaken its only to impress the crowed.

The droid has the better camera 5mega pix vs 3. The software is not the same. Droid runs 2.01 while blackflip runs only 1.6. Though the self potriat mode is a nice add on

They both have the same camera, 5MP. Backflip is currently on 1.5 Android OS. The Moto Droid has the latest Android OS. The droid comes with a 16GB MicroSD memory card installed, the Backflip comes with 2GB MicroSD. Both are expandable to 32GB.

Obviously, the better choice is going to be your service/location. In other words, whoever has the best coverage in your area. A free flip phone with a good signal will serve you better than a terrific phone that has no signal.

If service is equal and all things considered, the only real advantage the Backflip offers over the Droid is the keyboard and social network integration. Additionally, AT&T has somewhat locked the Backflip down. AT&T has the requisite bloatware installed, and they removed the option to install 3rd party apps not on the Android market. Verizon has pretty much left the Droid alone in terms of locking it down and forcing the use of their services.

I have a Backflip now, but I’m thinking about switching back to Verizon for coverage. Verizon gets a slightly better signal at my parents house. Also I hardly ever use social networking, so the Motoblur system on the Backflip is little more than a resource hog for me.

Hey the back flip has been tricked out the why the droid has not. The droid also has that anoying click evey time you open it and close it. The droid is also heavyer and bigger and can’t really find a good case for it. So nicer stuff about the backflip is it goes into table top mode when closed half way for alarm digital photo frame and movies. The droid does not also like to add the backflip has backtrack witch is like laptop mouse pad no need to touch your screen making it dirty any more. Last but not lest the backflip will be updated to the 2.1 os very soon so it will be better and cheaper than the droid. Ps I heard plenty of great reviews about backflip more than droid.

I would like to point out that the Droid was underclocked to 550mhz not 500mhz, even though the processor is capable of much more. (Mines overclocked to 1.2ghz and runs great)

Wow, this is so biased I can’t even begin…
The Droid is a 3.7″ superphone with the latest Android OS (well, recent enough and getting FroYo soon) and the highest resolution of any phone with that screen size. It has the best processor type on the market (OMAP) and beats everything (even the processor in the new iPhone 4) except the Nexus One with Froyo in benchmarks. The Backflip is a phone crippled by AT&T with WORSE specs than the G1, Yahoo Search for some reason, no app sideloading (and important feature for Android phones) and an inferior copy of HTC’s Freind Stream social networking widget. The Droid beats it in every way.
