On Feb. 15, Microsoft will reveal its latest mobile OS to get back into the business. The Windows Mobile 7 operating system, set to be announced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, will provide an opportunity to the company to break with the past and make some serious changes to the OS.

Windows Mobile 7 is expected to include a new user interface which is reported to be very similar to the Zune HD interface but there is also a list of features missing from the OS.

The most important features missing from Windows Mobile 7 include:

  • No Flash support
  • No multitasking
  • No Backwards compatibility
  • No ability to install app via storage card
  • No OEM Interfaces

The features that Window Mobile 7 include:

  • Social networking support
  • XBOX Gaming Integration (gamer tag, achievements, friends, avatars, merchandising)
  • Full Zune integration, Zune Desktop software as the interface for syncing with PC

Microsoft’s updated software has the advantage of easily handling word processing and spreadsheets sent from PCs.

Microsoft has confirmed that CEO Steve Ballmer will be giving the presentation during its press conference. Devices running WinMo 7 won’t hit the market until closer to the end of 2010.
