Is Your HTC Magic Infected With Mariposa Botnet?
HTC Magic users were horrified to learn that their phone has been infected with Mariposa Botnet and all credits goes to the carrier Vodaphone in Spain. Though the company claims it to as local affair but rumors are taking rounds about phones in other geographical locations may also have got infected with the virus.
An employee of Panda Security plugged a newly ordered HTC phone into a Windows computer, where it triggered an alert from the most probably Panda antivirus software. After some inspection, the HTC Magic’s onboard 8GB microSD card was found to have been carrying a password stealer, the Mariposa botnet and the Conficker worm.
According to Vodafone, the whole unfortunate business is “isolated and local” and there’s no evidence that HTC Magic smartphones supplied by Vodaphone elsewhere in Europe are affected.
For most of Vodaphone customers it is difficult to believe Vodaphone that leaving 3000 phone rest are safe and secure. The huge number of phones getting infected with the dangerous virus reveals the problems that the carrier is having with quality assurance and control.
