Verizon plans to double early termination fees for smartphones to as high as $350. The new ETF applies to customers who have a smartphone with one or two year contract.
According to the Boy Genius Report, Verizon Wireless has raised its $175 early termination fee to a whopping $350 specifically for “advanced devices,” which probably includes all smartphones. The termination fee won’t stay at $350 however: the sum will decrease by $10 for every month of service.

AT&T on Tuesday announced it will open its 3G wireless network to third-party Internet voice applications on Apple’s iPhone, clearing the way for services such as Skype.
Previously Skype and other Voice over IP (VoIP) applications for the iPhone, such as Fring, were relegated to Wi-Fi connections, prompting calls of foul play by consumers who often wanted to take advantage of features like the services’ cheaper rates for international calling.

The Internet telephony giant Skype is set to release a mobile client for iPhone and iPod touch on Tuesday and also announced a BlackBerry client slated for May.
By allowing ‘Skypers’ to make and receive calls via a data connection (instead of the cellular network), the application could take root with Blackberry and iPhone users wanting to sidestep hassles like calling plan overage and long distance fees.
